News From Doug
Ward 3 Councillor Doug Elmslie has announced he is running for Mayor of the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Today, I announce my candidacy for Mayor of the City of Kawartha Lakes. I am very excited by this prospect and look forward to engaging with you during the course of the campaign.
Councillor Doug Elmslie will be giving up his council seat to run for the position of mayor in the October 2022 municipal election making this at least a two-person race of declared candidates.
I spoke with Roderick Benns of the Lindsay Advocate, in partnership with Kawartha Lakes Matters, on the topic of housing.
“If you have them coming down from other directions … from Haliburton or further afield, they get down to Northline Road and they may need gas or other supplies.” Without amending the proposed bylaw, they may not be able to get to them, he said. “By passing this, it allows them to come into Fenelon Falls or some of the other smaller hamlets to get supplies.” He added that there is no place along to trail to get fuel between Fenelon Falls and Haliburton County.
During the March 26 Council meeting, Deputy Mayor Elmslie brought forward a resolution that staff work with the Cultural Centre Committee to establish a working group to prepare an RFP for a cultural centre using a qualified consultant. The resolution was passed and Councillor Seymour-Fagan and Councillor Richardson were added to the Committee.
