Council did, however, agree to postpone a rebranding project for the city that carries an estimated cost of $450,000 over two years.
A week ago, Cheri Davidson — marketing, advertising and communications manager for Kawartha Lakes — outlined a plan for council that included a rebrand to better present the city to outside visitors. The rebranding would possibly include a new logo, promotions, and their associated costs.
At Wednesday’s meeting, Mayor Andy Letham wondered if the rebranding efforts might be coming too soon.
“My concern is the timing of it,” he said. The idea behind the project is to sell to the public what the city has to offer. But he said improvements are still being made to “the product.”
“I’m not quite sure if we’re there yet. In my opinion, we should get the product where we want it, then worry about selling it once we’re there.”
Both Coun. Emmett Yeo and Deputy Mayor Doug Elmslie agreed, wondering if it should be revisited in four or five years.
